Asia Pacific Cultural StudiosCulturally grounded cognitive wellness

Brain games rooted in Asia Pacific heritage, built to run offline on correctional tablets.

The Lantern Suite turns proven cognitive exercises into calm, culturally grounded play. Every game is a single offline file with no network access, no accounts and no data leaving the device.

Practice that respects the player and the culture

Long stretches of confinement wear down attention, memory and emotional balance. Each Lantern Suite game targets one skill with a well-studied exercise, then wraps it in the arts and traditions of the Asia Pacific: batik, voyaging canoes, tea, terraces, kintsugi.

The games are trauma-informed by design. Mistakes fade gently instead of flashing red. Short reflections, written at about a 5th-grade reading level, connect each skill to daily life. They welcome every player, whatever their background, and give Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander players a rare chance to see their own heritage on the screen.

Built for the tablet, not the internet

Correctional tablets are locked down, low-powered and often offline for weeks. We design for those limits from the first line of code.

  • Air-gapped by construction

A strict Content Security Policy in each game file blocks every network request: no CDNs, no analytics, no remote fonts or images.

  • Nothing to monitor, nothing to misuse

No chat, no messaging, no accounts, no external links and no user-generated content.

  • Light enough for low-end hardware

Plain JavaScript compatible with older Android WebViews, procedural art instead of image files, and no libraries.

  • Content a review committee can approve

No violence, contraband, maps, escape themes or gang symbols. Calm visuals and gentle sound, with mute always one tap away.

Rooted in community

“Our mission is to bridge communities and generations through art, culture, education, and business.”

Mission of the Asia Pacific Cultural Center, Tacoma

We are developing the Lantern Suite in partnership with the Asia Pacific Cultural Center (APCC), a Tacoma nonprofit that has represented 47 countries and cultures since 1996. The partnership keeps the work tied to the communities it portrays, and to the families waiting at home.

About the partnership

How a pilot works

Agencies can evaluate the suite at no risk to their network or their schedule.

  1. Play the demos

Every game runs in a browser today. Disconnect from the internet and it keeps working.

  2. Review it your way

We provide source files, the Trust Center documentation and content summaries for your security and publication review.

  3. Pilot one unit

We package the games for your tablet platform and start with a small, defined group of users.

  4. Decide together

Review usage and on-device progress summaries with your program staff, then expand, adjust or stop.

Bring the Lantern Suite to your facility or program

Ask for a demo build, a capability statement or a briefing for your team.
